    Data recovery

I oft see folkes requesting means to recover deleted, or older versions of, files.

Are products such as Undelete any good?
What are recommended products in this category?

The two <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15>bies that I know of are detailed here. I can't comment personally on their efficacy. There are some articles here that might be useful.

    Re: Data recovery

I've recently started using PC Inspector File Recovery, pointed to by Alan. By the way, go directly to them at this link. My tests are not extensive but I have recovered a number of files successfully. As luck would have it, I didn't try to recover any files that it WASN'T able to complete. As I said, non-scientific tests, but enough to cause me to keep it around.

Several years ago, I was using Recover4All and still have it on one of my emergency toolkit floppies. When WinXP came along I upgraded to the Pro version ($69) and have "saved" files for a number of my friends in the past few years. Once again, this kind of thing is a once in awhile matter, so I don't have tons of history to go on.
