    Table-Cell boundaries (Word97, SR/2)

    Afternoon -

Have to recreate a table (no grid lines showing) from a hard copy table; some of the figures in the columns (which are right aligned)are boxed. I select those cells, Format/Border & Shading/Apply to Cell/Box. So far so good. Then I chose the cell

I am not exactly sure what you are trying to achieve but here is a stab at a couple of things you could try.

If you are happy with the positioning of the visible box but not the numbers - try using decimal tabs to align the numbers vertically. A decimal tab allows you to align the decimal point.

If you are happy with the positioning of the numbers but don't like the fact that adjacent boxes share a common boundary, in the borders and shading dialog - turn off the cell borders and apply the borders to the paragraph inside the cell instead.

    Hi, ACM -

How about this: insert a column to the right of the one you are working on, make it very narrow; select the cell with the figure in it plus the cell to its right, and apply the Box border to them. Then, if necessary, you can select the cell
