    Distributable Executable (VB.NET)

Will VB.NET (Standard Edition) produce a distributable executable?

Does VB.NET contain an .MDB similar to VB6?

    Thanks

    Re: Distributable Executable (VB.NET)

Yes, you can produce a distributable executable with VB.NET Standard 2003. See the FAQ for more details.

By MDB, do you mean an Access/JET database file? I'm not sure whether it can create them on the fly, but it *should* have similar functionality to VB6. As for connecting to existing MDB files, it has all of the ADO.NET connection capabilities (OleDb, SQL, ODBC, Oracle, etc.).

Please post back with any further details if this is not the information you were seeking.

Edit: Ah ha! The answer to creating MDB files is YES. Here's a link with details: http://www.codeguru.com/vb/gen/vb_database...ticle.php/c5149

    Hi Mark,

I have been to MS site and could not find if VB.NET comes in an upgrade for VB6. Do you know if it does?

Also where might be the most economical way to purchase VB.NET?

    Thanks

    Re: Distributable Executable (VB.NET)

I would recommend Visual Studio over just Visual Basic...

Here is the list of Visual Studio prices: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/ho.../choosing.aspx
Here's the same for Visual Basic: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vbasic/howtobuy/choosing.aspx

Just for future reference, these links were each two clicks away from their respective product home pages. It's not very hard to find.
