    Optional Hyphens & PasteSpecial

Can anyone give me a reason as to why this happens?

In Word 97, an optional hyphen, when copied and pastespecial as unformatted text, it's pasted as a regular hyphen. In Word 2000, it is pasted as nothing. I didn't find any info. on TechNet.

Do you mean that in Word 2000 the optional hyphen is pasted as a blank spot? i.e., a space? like wild-minded becoming wild minded?

Or does it just jam the two hyphenated parts together? like wild-minded becoming wildminded?

    Yes, believe it or not, it becomes a blank space! <img src=/S/brainwash.gif border=0 alt=brainwash width=15 height=15>
