    Find the Desktop

    Hi

I have just started a job and the company is using Win 98 I miss my quick launch and Windows + D for the desktop.

Is there any thing at all in Win 98 that would serve as substitute for the above.

    Many Thanks

Can you not right click in the toolbar, and enable the QuickLaunch there?

What version of IE are you running?
I think the quick launch came with IE 4.0

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Was that maybe a 98 vs. 98SE thing? I'm grasping here, as I don't use 98 anylonger on any computers I have (or want) access.

    Re: Find the Desktop

I think for the Quick Launch, you must have Active Desktop, which as Dave says, comes with IE4 & above (although you needn't view the desktop as a web page). You told Chris that when you right click the taskbar, you can't choose Toolbars/QuickLaunch, right? If you go to Start/Settings..., do you have an option for Active Desktop?

Windows+M minimize all your windows to get to the desktop, although Win+D should also work. Do a search on your hard drive for

    Show?Desktop*

    & make sure it's there.

    Hope this helps,

    HI Phil

Sorry I took so long to reply.

I have IE6.0 so it must be the active desktop theory, I will check it out when I get to work.

Thanks to you and Dave A for your replies

    Re: Find the Desktop

Ah - if you have the original release of Windows 98 and installed IE 6 after the fact, you will not have the Active Desktop. It was removed as an installation option in Internet Explorer 5. To get it, you need to removed IE6, track down IE4 and install it with the Active Desktop option, and then upgrade to IE6.
