Delete Names From AutoComplete List (Outlook XP,SP3 on Win2k)

MS states we can select the name from the auto complete drop list and delete it. Not true. Deleted the contact ID in contacts then autocomplete. Still appears when typing the name.
This happens with or without Word as mail editor. Name is not listed in Autocorrect. Just curious.

The dropdown list is not a contact list.

To delete - wait until the dropdown displays, then use the up and down arrow keys to blue highlight the one you want gone, and press delete.

This problem has been vexing me for weeks. Doing what AndrewO suggests doesn't delete the AutoComplete entries. It does nothing. That is why the first post was posted. Anyone else have any ideas?

    Welcome to the Lounge.

Andrew's suggestion clears any entry when there are multiple choices in the autoselect dropdown in XP, but does not clear the autocomplete autosuggestion if there is only one 'like' name autosuggested by Outlook; see <!mskb=289975>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 289975<!/mskb> for a workaround to clear single autocomplete names, see also <!mskb=287623>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 287623<!/mskb> for info on resetting the entire autocomplete cache. (The Outlook Nickname tool which was available for Outlook 2000 was abandoned in XP & 2003 because the users' ability to edit Autocomplete entries was improved; an updated version is available on request to MS, see <!mskb=318827>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 318827<!/mskb>.)

    Hope this helps.

Are we all talking about the same thing? Here's an illustration of the method that should work.

That question is widely applicable in this day and age! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
