    DVD Read as Hard drive??

I have just installed a new DVD/CD Rom drive. When the system (Athlon 2000 Win XP Home) boots it say "secondary drive hard disk fail" I press F1 as indicated and all proceeds well and the drive works just fine. Any ideas what is could be causing the initial error message?

Does that message appear to be coming during POST, i.e. BIOS or after Windows starts to boot. Assuming the device IS an IDE connected drive, you should go in to the BIOS and see if that particular device is set to auto detect. If so, does the BIOS appear to be recognizing it by brand/model or whatever?

It was loose cable. I had been in the BIOS and it would not auto detect the drive. . I tried everything and finally after sending the post to the lounge and reading your response did the very basic "check the cable", Aha it went in farther. It still was funky until I went back into the BIOS and reset it to Auto detect. .
    Now all is good.

    Thanks, Gaddy
