Common Client User Session (XP Pro/Zone Alarm)

Hi,
I wasn't sure if this was the correct place to post this so I thought I'd at least start here. I keep getting a message from Zone Alarm (see attached) and when I tried to research it it just became more confusing. It says it has changed - that could be ok or a problem. How am I supposed to know which? Does this application need to access the internet. Does any application ever need to access the internet as a server? I am not really good with configuring NIS and Zone Alarm. <img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15>

Hi,
Adelphia is correct and I use Outlook XP for e-mail. I have been getting a lot of blocked notices from Zone Alarm which usually refer to the page I am currently looking at ?????

What program do you use for email? The IP address in the ZA screen resolves to " mail.adelphia.net " and I think you're an Adelphia user, correct? I haven't taken the time yet to see what the program is, but it looks like its something to do with your email.

Edited to add: Found the following at Symantec web: "ccApp is an important part of the protection that Norton AntiVirus (NAV) or Norton Internet Security (NIS) provides and should not be disabled at startup. ccApp.exe is the common hosting application that is used by both NAV and NIS. It calls the different program features in NAV and NIS. For example, in NAV, if Auto-Protect and Email Scanning are enabled, then ccApp.exe makes sure that those programs are running. If ccApp is disabled, then Auto-Protect and Email Scanning will not run."

Yes, I think so. I don't know the in-depth reasons for the terminology but I think it's because it handling mail and that involves incoming and outgoing packets. I believe a program that's just accessing the internet woudn't involve being a "server."

When a personal firewall reports a program change, it makes sense to try to verify that this change was made by a trusted source. If this is a Symantec program, then the file author and version should match up with whatever Symantec's information is. (I actually have no idea what it should be.)
