Spam locks Outlook mail (Outlook 2003)

For the last few days I have been receiving a spam message that locks my incoming mail. When Outlook begins to download this message it downloads one bite at a time very very slowly, perhaps at the rate of 50 bites a minute. If I log into my POP account with Web mail and delete this spam message, the rest of my mail is downloaded as soon as I click Send/Receive. I am getting this "blocking" spam message about once a day. I notice in Web mail the message has a subject "Leads" and an attachment. The sender varies, but it it obviously fake. I am using McAfee Virus Scan 8.0 but I don't think McAfee ever sees this message. Somehow it is capable to virtually locking incoming mail to Outlook.

To determine whether it is the virus scanner, take a look at your account settings. Typically, the virus scanner is getting it first if your mail server has been changed to local host or 127.0.0.1, and your true mail server name has been tacked on to your username.

No, my POP server (and my SMTP server) still have the IP of these servers.
