    SQL Server Databases (7.0)

Not really an Access question although Access is used as the project.
I have a database in SQL Server 7.0 on an off site development PC linked into an Access Project.
I need to move this to a new Server machine. The development PC cannot link into the network.
What is the easiest way to move the SQL Server Database and the Access Project to the new machine.
I could make a backup of the SQL database, but it would not exist on the other server
so how do I restore it there?

    Any answers appreciated.

Before restoring on the other server, create a new empty database on the server with the same name as the database on the existing server. Then you will be able to restore from your backup.

If you can't connect the development server into the network, how are you going to physically transfer the database? Do you have the ability to write a CD or a DVD on that PC? If so, you could copy the backup file to that kind of media, and then do a restore from the network server. Is you network server also going to be SQL 7.0? I would strongly recomment upgrading to 2000 - it has much nicer administration tools, and has gotten regular security fixes and service packs.

    Re: SQL Server Databases (7.0)

I have 2 options to do this so the transfer is no issue.
I can either used a CD Writer, or a 256Mb USB memory card. (Depending upon the size of the database)

    Regarding SQL Server.
    Ideally yes, 2000.
Unfortunately I have no control over that at the moment, and 7.0 is in use.
I keep trying to put the pressure on to get 2000, but it's not my money.

    Thanks

    Thank's.
