    numbered lists (2002)

Is there a way to get word to start every new numbered list I format at number 1, instead of starting where the last numbered list left off?

I don't really know the answer, but to correct it you can highlight the area where you want the numbers to start over, right click and select restart numbering.

You can't use a pure style to get the list to restart as a local format setting is required to restart the numbering. This can be applied by a macro such as the ListRestart macro listed in <post#=106646>post 106646</post#>.

If you are very consistent with your styles, another macro can be used to search through the document and ensure that each separate list is restarted. This will be necessary when pasting large blocks of text which includes lists into other files.
