Excel VBA wksht protection (Excel 2000)

I have an Excel file which has all the sheet protected, and cells for user entry unlocked.
The users want to be able to change the background color of input cells so they can have a quick reference to cells that are still not filled in.
With the worksheet protected they can't change the formatting, even of unlocked cells.
Is there any way to unprotect just the formatting of a cell?

You can specify that cell formats may be changed when you protect the document (See attached graphic, or the help for the worksheet.protect method). But you can't unprotect just the cell formatting, you would have to unprotect the worksheet and then protect it again with format changes allowed.

That option has been introduced with Excel 2002 and is not available in Excel 2000.

You would have to write code that unprotects, formats and reprotects the cells.

I think we are upgrading to Office 2003 this year, so I think I'll have them wait for that feature until then.

Thanks for letting me know it's coming though!

I'm glad you'll be getting the feature soon. Sorry for not reading your post carefully enough to note the version.
