system Standby Failure Error Message (WIN XP HOME)

A friend's DELL system has recently started giving her the following error message: "System Standby Failed. The device driver for the Communications Port (COM 1) driver is preventing the machine from entering standby. "

Any suggestions as to what could be causing this?

Are you using Com 1? If not disable it in Bios and see if that helps. If you are using it, whatever you have using Com 1 needs an updated Driver to use Standby, such as a modem. 3rd party un-assigned drivers can also cause this problem.

Re: system Standby Failure Error Message (WIN XP HOME)

I asked her what she had added/installed - she responded that she had installed a couple of programs but had now uninstalled them and was no longer having the problem. Sorry I can not be more specific. She said that she would let me know if the problem reoccurs. Thanks for your help.
