IE Repair

I have tried to repair IE 6SP1 and every time I tried I would get a message telling me that IE could not be repaired. I checked on the details and it told me that SCRRUN>DLL was missing. I reinstalled IE 6SP1 and that did not help. Someone suggested to use SFC and to extract the file. I have no idea where in SFC to go to do this. There must be 100 places to go to try to get this file and so far I have tried at least 20 of them with the answer " File cannot be found." Can someone help me with this problem? Please reply.

Re: IE Repair

You can go to Microsoft DLL Database & search for SCRRUN.DLL. Note that you need to know the version number also.
Cheers,

I went to that site and i am more confused. When I get the SCRRUN.DLL it does not give a version number. How would I go about finding the version number? Is it the same as IE 6. That is the version number of IE that I have. Please reply.

Re: IE Repair

You need to determine the version number that you need. The DLL is listed with it's version number. If you click on each one, it will tell you what products it came with. So look for Win 98 or IE 6, whichever is later.
Cheers,

Re: IE Repair

OK I think I found the version number for SCRRUN.DLL. It's 5.6.0.6626. I have gone to the download section and did not find anything that would allow me to get that DLL. Please reply.

Re: IE Repair

I did a search on Google for SCRRUN.DLL 5.6.0.6626 download. They listed this site to download it. I have never used that site, so I can't guarantee anything about it (i.e. use it at your own risk).
Hope this helps,

Re: IE Repair

Paulie, you can't open the file. To install it you need to do two things:
1.
Copy the file to the location where it should normally reside {i.e. C:WINDOWSSystem}

Register the DLL with Windows. To do this, you click Start - Run and enter regsvr32 scrrub.dll and then click OK.
Once you register the DLL, you should see a message that reads something like RevSvr32 scrrub.dll succeeded. If you don't see a success message, then make a note of what you do see.

Re: IE Repair

Phil, it worked. I copied the file scrrun.dll from Win98se (C and put it in C:WINDOWSSystem. Then I went to run and entered regsvr32 scrrun.dll and clicked OK and got a small window titled "RegSvr32" and in that window was stated "DllRegisterServerin scrrun.dll succeded".
I went back to Add/Revove>Ms IE 6SP1>repair and was able to repair IE succesfully. Don't know how to thank you for your time and patience in helping me with this problem, except may all you PC problems be very tiny ones. Can I ask where did you learn these repairs that you offered to me? Also I have one more problem I am having only in IE 6 that I don't have when I use Netscape. I will get back to you with as many details as I can about it. I thought repairing IE 6 would fix it, but it didn't. Once that is fixed then my PC will be purring like the 28 pound tabby sitting next to it. His likeness is to the left. Thanks again. Your a PC Life Saver.

I have the version you mentioned. If you will send me your email address I will send you a copy. Then you can end all that searching and coming up empty.

If you will be so kind as to explain in laymen's terms how to post it, it will be on its way. I've never done it that way.

Actually, no, please do not post any DLLs (even in a zip archive) here on the Lounge, without a license to do so. This is for copyright reasons.
