Conversion Issues (Access 97 to XP)

    Hello Access Gurus,

I have just converted an Access 97 database to XP - having compiled all code and compacted the database before converting. I then opened the database in Access XP and chose to convert to XP. I am wondering why the title bar of the Database window says (Access 2000 file format). Can anyone help me here?

    Cheers,

    Jocelyn

Re: Conversion Issues (Access 97 to XP)

I have Access 2003, and I suspect that XP is the same.

Look in Tools...Options..Advanced, and there is a default file format specified. 2000 is set as the default unless you change it...the default default!

When you convert a file on opening, the default format is used. If you convert using Tools..Database Utilities..convert you can say what format yopu want to convert to.
    Regards
    John

Thanks kindly for your response. Gee it is those defaults that get you every time. You'd think that if you opened Access XP that this would be the version you wanted to convert to wouldn't you?

    Thanks,

    Jocelyn

Re: Conversion Issues (Access 97 to XP)

Access XP supports two file formats, 2000 and 2002. The default for XP is the 2000 file format, so that *is* the version you're converting to. There is a problem with the 2002 file format that causes irreducible bloat, so I recommend you stay with the 2000 format.
