USB problems

A client has a PII 350 running Win98 and has an Epson printer attached to a USB port. At times when they try to print the connection somehow gets broken. They have to restart the machine or printer to get it back. There are no other USB items piggy backed. I have installed new drivers but to no avail. Anyone got any ideas???

Does the printer have a USB port, or are you using a USB to parallel cable. If you are using a USB to parallel cable, try a different cable, preferably from a different manufacturer. I have found those USB to parallel printer cables to be very flaky and to cause problems like you describe.

Hi Legare, thanks for the quick response. Yes the printer has a USB port, so it's usb to usb.

This isn't after a snooze period is it? I sometimes have a problem with my elsa modem if the system has been in doze mode for a couple of hours.

    Re: USB problems

To be honest I hadn't thought of that one. In the interim we have reverted to good ol parallel port through a switch. There was just too much time being spent rebooting etc..

    Thanks for the thought though.
