    Filter and Numbers (Excel 2000)

How can you filter an Excel list for anything in the column that begins or even contains the number 3? ( number 3 is my random choice ) I have tried an AutoFilter - Custom with the Begins With statement and a Wilcard statement and can not get either to work with numbers (both of these statements work with text fine). I have also tried to create an Advanced filter with critera that again only seems to work with text fields. Any suggestions?

Re: Filter and Numbers (Excel 2000)

Say the data are in column A, with the column header (field name) in A1 and data starting in A2. Insert a column; add a dummy column header in row one, and enter this formula in row 2:
and fill down as far as necessary. You can use the custom AutoFilter on this column.
