    Which extension? (Mozilla Firefox 0.8)

I decided to start from scratch and completely removed all of Mozilla. I now have Mozilla Firefox loaded and running pretty decently. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> I have downloaded several extensions but must be missing one to make this page work correctly. Or perhaps this paticular page just won't work in Firefox?

    TIA for any help on this tiny dilemma! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Go ahead and wait to see what one of the other Firefox users say, Skitterbug, but I don't think it's an extension issue. I hope I'm WRONG in this case. It doesn't work in Mozilla 1.6 either and I think it's another one of those "non-standard" issues because it works just fine in IE 6. I hope you get a "favorable" response from one of the others.

Does not work in my version of Firefox, as Big Al said it appears to be one of those non-standard pages that will not work in Mozilla.

I'll be third in line to confirm it. Because of the changes that Microsoft made to Javascript in their own implementation, the code would need to be completely re-written to work in any Mozilla build. Script languages (such as Javascript) are where the browsers don't agree most often.

<img src=/S/thankyou.gif border=0 alt=thankyou width=40 height=15>Al, Tony and Mark! I had <img src=/S/crossfingers.gif border=0 alt=crossfingers width=17 height=16> that maybe I was just missing something but with 100% of the return posts indicating that Moz isn't able to run this type of page, I will not be concerned about it. <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15> though it is!

Would this also be the same problem for those banners that run across the pages at the top? I was also tinkering around for that possbile extension but haven't found it either. An example of one would be here. Warning, this is a church page <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>

    <img src=/S/sorry.gif border=0 alt=sorry width=15 height=15> I didn't ask this the same time as I asked the previous question, but I didn't know I was gonna have the question then yet!!! <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>

Re: Which extension? (Mozilla Firefox 0.8)

Just to clarify, it's not that the Mozilla browsers cannot display that type of page, it's that the script language is imperfect. Internet Explorer is a lot more forgiving of subtle differences in Javascript and the like. Making it even more complicated is the fact that each browser supports slightly different proprietary extensions to the basic standards. At least, that was the case. Mozilla browsers are supposed to be strictly compliant with standards.

The problem with your example page is similar but not exactly the same. On that page, it's more sloppy coding than it is a Javascript problem. The banner at the top uses the <marquee> HTML tag. As with most HTML elements, there are attributes - such as width, height, etc. - that should be specified and in this case they are not. IE burps and displays it anyway, and Mozilla does exactly what it is told, resulting in a marquee that is one pixel wide. This particular problem would be easily fixed.

Most of the time these things are the result of the page designer not testing their work in anything but Internet Explorer. Since IE has such saturation in the world of browsers, this is not completely surprising but it is still sad (to me at least). On the one hand...it's easier to design for one platform (browser). But the reality is that there is more than one browser around and a good designer will test their output in multiple browsers.

I must admit that I am the guilty party of not making that <marquee> work in anything but IE! Can you pass along the rudiments of repair so that I can view it in Moz?? <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15> and <img src=/S/thankyou.gif border=0 alt=thankyou width=40 height=15>!!

    Hi "Skit"

I confirm that your first entry ("page") did not run but I can't find anything wrong with the second (the Church banner runs just fine or am I missing what you are after?)

    Hi Richard,

I'm not Skitterbug but I play one on TV. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> Actually, the rest of the topic can be found on the Web Design Board here and here. Sorry about the confusion; I moved the rest of the thread there because it became more of a discussion on coding than general browser discussion.

    Sorry for the confusion!
