Product ID from CD

I scratched the bottom of my Office XP install CD and need the product id to request a replacement from Microsoft. Since it isn't on the paper with the product key (25 bytes), how can I get one to provide to them?

(Edited by jscher2000 on 19-May-04 22:31. )
The long, multipart product key affixed to the jewel box is usually the one that's hard to find (something with a name similar to "magic jellybean" can recover that from the installed product). If you still have Office installed, the product ID should appear in the Help>About dialog along with your name and company information.

Added: There is a program called xpdec from Licenturion that will calculate the product ID given the product key, in case the product is no longer installed.

Good memory, Jefferson. It's Magical Jellybean, a favorite of mine since it was unearthed in the Lounge some time ago. The Licenturion offering looks like it is version specific, do you know if this is the case or not?

I'd have to search. I know when xpdec was first mentioned on the Lounge that it was tested against both Office and Windows and found to work for both. I don't recall much more than that, and I believe there is only one version available.

I have use the "Keyfinder" from Magic Jellybean many times to save the tush of the users that throw away the CD case and use a wire rack to store their CDs in.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Belarc Advisor is pretty good in providing key information as stored in the registry. Click here to get the latest free copy.
