Help with import (OE6)

Hi, I have just reformatted and reloaded my mum's PC as it had got seriously corrupted over the last few years...
I backed up all the email folders and address books, but unfortunately did not export them to csv or other files. oops.

I did what i have done previously which is saving the IDENTITIES folder which held the messages and folder structures. Also I just saved the wab file.

When i have done it this way in the past it was fine, as i was using the same version of Outlook Express on the reinstall, so I simply imported the messages and address book, but this time... you guessed it. I have saved the files from an Outlook Express5, and now after all the updates and everything i am trying to get them into Outlook Express 6.

I should have realised that this was going to happen, as I know you cant do the import from wab OE5 to wab OE6 ( what a wonderful thing MS!)

Any quick pointers or ways around this? I was thinking of doing an import into Outlook (if it lets me) and then exporting them back out as more fiendly csv files?

Cheers
Thanks,

pmatz

I reckon you might find it useful to look at the Backup and Restore reference (on the right-hand side) of the Tomsterdam website!

Thanks JohnGray, that site has a lot of helpful info. I will sift through it and hopefully sort out my problem. I think one of the problems may be that the folders i'm trying to imoprt would be read only, as they were burned to disc ( which i think makes files read only by default). Hopefully this will solve some of the issues

Oops!! <img src=/S/bubbles.gif border=0 alt=bubbles width=31 height=17>

It was nothing more than the files I was trying to import were all read only ( after being burnt to cd) ....

We live and learn - won't miss that one again <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
Thanks,
