    Media Player Startup (Windows XP)

Every time I start my PC up Windows Media Player starts up automatically, I had a look at the startup files and, although I couldnt' work out how to look at the contents of them they had not been modified for several months. This problem with Media player has only been going on for a couple of weeks. I very rarely use media player and hadn't used it for a while before it started popping up. Can anyone help me to stop it doing this as it is a bit irritating.
    Thanks.,Duncan

    Duncan

If you use Spybot S&D in Advanced mode, you can use Tools=> System Startup to list all the programs that get started when you start the computer. You can remove the tick in the box in front of the Media Player command line so that it doesn't start automatically the next time.

(This does the same thing and gives the same result as Hans' suggestion, but you may prefer an (apparently) less-invasive method. Also, running Spybot's Scan regularly is a Good Thing!)
