    Chicago Manual of Style

Of value only to those of us in the US, the bride just advised me that The Chicago Manual of Style has a website. Free registration provides access the entire manual online. The FAQ is fun reading.

And here's the CSoM's take on quoting URLs, which I went looking for.

John: I wish the entire manual was accessible online. It appears that the free registration gives access to a concordance, not the articles. You must have the 15th print edition to go further. A quote from the site: "...we now offer a full-text search of the fifteenth edition. This tool allows you to type in a word or phrase and receive a list of the numbers and subheadings of all paragraphs in the print edition that contain this word or phrase."

A CD may be available for purchase this fall, they say.

Very interesting. It would appear that they only consider information to be citable is it's printed. Publishing on the Web would appear to be a no-no in their opinion. Not very progressive, are they?

Sorry Calvin & Sundog. I was deluded into thinking you could search the CSM on line. <img src=/S/stupidme.gif border=0 alt=stupidme width=30 height=30>

    Re: Chicago Manual of Style

I doubt it's of much general interest, but here's The Guardian's Style Guide,
and WordIQ has links to a whole heap of others, both UK- and US-based, including some books!

In the USA, the two most common are likely the U of Manual of Style and the one from the Modern Language Association.

There's another, I forget which, that is/was popular in the UK.
