scattered Icons

I had a "failer to shut down" problem with W98SE, and got some good advice - fixed it. Lately, (last couple days), the computer doesn't want to shut down (again), but if I restart it, then shut it down, it goes away. But....when it comes back, it has scattered the Icons out of position. Is there a section of the computer that I should look at first? LIke Direct X, or video card?? The card
is not that old, and normally the 3D and CAD files work just fine. It's a Dell Optiplex Gx110, and has plenty of capacity, and
hard drive size, along with 512 MB memory. This seems to be triggered if I shut down after having "loads of files" working just
before. Thanks for past help and any ideas.

Could be that you are running Windows 98 which has one of the worst memory managers, with the use of "loads of files" . Also your 64K of resources may be eaten up.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: scattered Icons

By the way, on the other issue you mentioned, icons scattering... ZDNet (unfortunately no longer free) had a utility called Tidy95. This utility could record positions of icons at different resolutions & restore them with a mouse click. It's a real life saver if you have numerous desktop icons & folders & switch resolutions (e.g. when you boot in safe mode).
Cheers,
