Cannot update rows from a combo box (Access 2002/X

I'm on the ground floor here, I rarely work in Access and this one has me completely confused. Searching the forum led me to some interesting things but nothing clear.

Here is the situation: I have a form that I want to populate table rows with. It contains a few combo boxes, a date field, and some true/false (yes/no) fields. When I attempt to work with the form, the values appear in the combo box list, but I cannot select any of them. Ditto for the date field and the yes/no fields.

I know I'm missing something simple here, but I haven't a clue as to what it is. Why will Access not allow me to select any of these values or input a date? Seems simple...but it apparently isn't!

    There are several possible explanations:

The Allow Edits property of the form (in the Data tab of the Properties window) has been set to No.

The Recordset Type property of the form (also in the Data tab) has been set to Snapshot.

The Record Source of the form (also - you guessed it) has been set to the name of a query that is not updateable.[/list]Does any of these apply to your form?

In checking, I discovered that the record source of the form was set to a non-existent query. Thank you for helping me with newbie issue #1!

Now that I've fixed that issue, I have a related problem.

There are two tables, Residents and Evaluation.

Residents contains three columns: FirstName, LastName, and RoomBed. The primary key is RoomBed.
Evaluation contains several unique fields, and also contains RoomBed. I have established a one-to-many relationship between Residents.RoomBed and Evaluation.RoomBed.

The form's source is Evaluation. What I cannot seem to accomplish now is allowing the entry of the resident name in the form, since it is in the Residents table. As an experiment, I created a separate form for entering resident information, but ideally I would like to keep it all confined to a single form.

    Sick of me yet?

You could create a main form based on Residents and a subform on the main form, based on Evaluation. The forms would be linked by RoomBed.

Or you could create a query based on Evaluation and Roombed, and use that as record source of the form.
