Which Newsreader Outlook uses

For ages I believed that Outlook uses Outlook Express as its newsreader. (After all, that's what Outlook's help says.) But a while ago, to my surprise, something different started: Outlook's own newsreader, which I'd never seen in my life.

Well, cool, I thought. I can ditch OE. But I didn't get around to it.

Last week my usual "View / Goto / News" brought OE to the screen again. Jeepers, I thought. Now what. I rummaged around and found someplace to change the newsreader selection, but it only listed OE!

Today the same action starts Outlook's own newsreader again, and I can't for the life of me figure out where I found the thing that listed OE as the only option.

    What's going on?

it's outlook express with a news only switch.

there are two - one is /newsonly, the other is /outnews. The title bar and the start up screen are slightly different, but both are express.

you can add the switch to any express icon on your desktop or start menu and load the news only part without using go > news

Thanks, MJ - any idea why the same action on my part brings up different things at different times??

Also, perhaps I'm wrong, but I could have sworn that when I got switched between them the msgs were out of sync - but I'll believe you if you say my memory's whacked.

no idea at all on why you see the different screens at different times.

as for your memory being whacked, do a search for *.dbx. if you have two folders full of them it's not your imagination they are out of sync, it's that you are using two OE different profiles and they really are out of sync <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    Nope, just one!

Who knows... well, I'll try to be more watchful about what happens when. Thanks.
