User Management (XP SP1)

I would like to create an entirely separate user for my use when I am working for my employer (from my home office) and one for my personal and my own business use to keep the data and information completely separate. I would also like to see logs of the time spent logged in to each account.

Is that logging information available and where would I find it. Any other suggestions about how to do this would be hepful.

    Thanks!

You can enable security auditing and track the times of logon/logoff events, but I am not aware of a way to easily calculate the amount of time spent in an account.

    To enable security auditing:
    1.
Click Start

Click Run

Enter secpol.msc and click OK

Click on the [+] sign next to Local Policies

Select Audit Policy

For each option in the right panel, you can double-click on it and select Success or Failure logging
Hope that helps, perhaps someone else will have a simpler solution...

Don't know if this will help, and it involves user interaction. I havre attached a Log File Template (created with Notepad) that can be used to create time logs, but must be opened to begin logging. I don't know of a way to automate it but perhaps some other lounger can provide a BATch file that would do the trick of starting and closing the file when each account logs on.

    Mark/Doc

Mark's method has the merit of automating the production of time-stamped Logon and Logoff records, and using something like PsLogList from SysInternals gives the ability to selectively dump the Event Log file to a flat file. It would be possible to write a BATch file to process this to give time-logged-on by userid, but the "exceptions", as usual, could make this difficult (where there was a power outage, or for some reason the PC didn't shut down normally). I'd have to see examples of the records to determine just how easy (!) it would be, though. And the other snag is that I'm away during almost all of June!

Doc's method would be fine, but not easily automated -- and something like this just cannot depend on the user remembering to run something when she starts work, and when she stops work, at least IMHO!

Are you asking for help in creating another user also?
