    compare documents (Word 2000 SP3)

How do I compare 2 documents when the revisions were NOT made using track changes? Are there any potential pitfalls?

    TIA,
    gg

Open one of the two documents (the more recent one, preferably). Select Tools | Track Changes | Compare Documents... and browse to the other one. Insertions and deletions will be indicated as in track changes.

Thanks... I seem to be getting large quantities of text marked as "changes" and wondered what I was doing wrong. Any thoughts on this?

Word's compare feature is not perfect. There are third party products that do a better job, a search for 'compare word documents' (here or in Google) will find several.

This is a stunning understatement. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> In some respects Word 97 handled Compare far better than Word 2000 and 2002. Perhaps this is all better again in Word 2003?
