Ad-aware

I tried to uninstall a program from my Win xp and it left a pop up window when I first start my computer.
Hoping Ad-aware would fix this I tried to download Ad-aware free from Lavasoft website, it didn't ask me WHERE I wanted to download to. Then I look for it and it's nowhere to be found. HELP

Re: Ad-aware

Try the last folder you downloaded to. If it's not there, try a "Search" on your C drive for the file name aaw6181.exe.

Thanks for trying to help. I just did all those things you suggested can't find it. Would my Firewall
prevent it from downloading?

Are you sure that it down laded?
It could have been installed, check your "All programs" menu?

If not found, try downloading again, but this time watch the screen a see where it is going.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Ad-aware

I would think your Firewall software would log such activity if it did block it.

Are you certain a quick finger on the OK button didn't bypass a "save to location" option or, possibly, some other option that might have caused your problem. Maybe trying a second download might succeed.

One similar problem that I encounter at my office is with browser downloads over 2 or 3 meg. The download completes but the subsequent save to location fails after a varying number of meg.

I'm not sure this is the right forum for this discussion. Leave it here for another day or two and see if anyone else can help. If no success, try posting to the appropriate browser forum. It's important to choose the right forum to begin with, and sometimes it's a hard call, because cross posting is a sure way to bring on the wrath of the Mods.

The Wrath of the Mods is terrible , but it doesn't extend much further than locking one of the threads.

In fact, if you mention the crossposting in the posts themselves, or PM a moderator about it, we will lock one of the threads silently.

Re: Ad-aware

I just went to Download.Com to see if the "Save As" window would come up, letting one pick the folder for saving, and it does. Can you (have you already) try again or let us know from which mirror site you tried the initial download?

Re: Ad-aware

I disabled my Firewall then went to Download.com...Entered Ad-aware in the Search....it took me to the page to either Download now or Click to Buy. When I Clicked Download now it took me to another page that said Download in Progress....10 seconds later it said done, it did'nt ask me Where to download to. I've downloaded other things which I was sorry for. I have a program on my computer called Fix-it Utilities 5, I ran that program but it did'nt find the Ad in start up.

Re: Ad-aware

I was still trying to download Ad-aware and I have had no trouble downloading other programs in the past. But this time I followed the Lavasoft LINK from the Kim Komando Website and was able to see the window that said WHERE to download to. I installed it without any trouble this time. I don't understand what happened but it's fine now. Thanks for all the input.
