copying fonts in xp (Version 2002 sp1)

I often have to send copy to printers on a cd and need to put the fonts on the cd too, but xp won't let me do it. I don't get any error messages it just doesn't happen!! I'm sure this is a permissions problem but don't know how to solve it. Has anyone else come across this problem?

This is a trial-or-error test! I used to have similar problems in earlier versions of Windows, and the way I got around it was to make a duplicate copy of all the .TTF files (or selected ones) into a self-created folder, NOT in the Windows directory. I just tried a drag and drop of a dozen .TTF files from the fonts folder to a temporary folder and that part worked OK. Don't know about the rest of YOUR process, i.e. putting them on a CD.

Create a folder called something like Fonts Used on your desktop or within the Fonts folder itself (where ever it is most comfortable for you to work with) and using Windows Explorer drag and copy the fonts you used in the work to that folder. Then drag that folder to your CD-RW drive. The folder will appear with the fonts inside and ready to burn. Add your documents and burn the CD. HTH

If you are sending Word documents, Word has a neat feature which allows you to embed the fonts within the document itself. The recipient does not require your specific fonts installed in order to print the document (Tools>Options>Save tab>Embed True Type fonts).

Yes, I find it very useful. The same feature is also found in Publisher and I use it quite often.

I'd remembered this Word option too, but couldn't find the correct location.

Bear in mind that the developer of a font can set it to "Do not allow embedding" - you can install the Font Properties Extension to check for this, on a tedious font-by-font basis using the Embedding tab...

Thanks John. It's supposed to rain here tomorrow, so perhaps I can install Font Properties Extension and check the embedding characteristics of the thousand or so fonts I keep around.

If it rains, I'll likely find the TV and the bottoms of a few bottles of Molsen's Golden !!

Golden? Do they still make that stuff? I remember pounding those back during university days (way, way too long ago). Back then, Golden was one of the top selling suds in Canada. Then Molson's, in their wisdom, decided to sell it in a different bottle (light green if I remember) and changed the product from an ale to a lager. That pretty well ended Golden's reign up here. As the old saying goes (and Coke can attest to this), "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Anyhow Doc, if it does rain today, hope you enjoy your Golden. Up here, it's sunny and hot (yes we do actually have hot weather in Canada too), and right now, I am enjoying a nice cold one myself.

According to Molson Canada your favourite brew is not available. However, move south of the border and you'll find that Molson USA has your Golden.

Ah - so Molson USA "fixed" it again! Ale and Lager????

BTW Bob, did you make a mistake with your signature flags (logo 2nd from left)? If you like I can PM you a really classy replacement for that ugly one (similar to the Maple Leaf on the Canadian flag except blue).

Thanks for the offer John. But why would I want to align myself with an organization that hasn't succeeded since 1967? As background, I was born and raised in Montr
