font colour change to 50%black (WXP-SP3)

    Hiya

I've been asked to make a font colour in 50% black.
I know that in formatting tables >borders & shading> tab shading>in the Patterns styles listbox - there is different percentage of shading - 20%, 50% etc.
How would I apply that to the font colour?

    many thanks Diana

Well... could they possibly mean "50% gray"? There is a shade of gray in Word 2002's font color palette that fits that description. Using an official color has the benefit that it can be assigned to a style and then globally changed later if they want a different level of "blackness." However, it might not be backwards compatible to Word 97.

    Hi Diana:
I have Word 2000, so the menu choices may be slightly different.
    1. Press Ctrl+D to bring up the font dialog box.
    2. Click the drop down arrow next to colors, then click more colors. You can make any modification to font color that you want.
    Hope this helps,

It's on the drop-down in the Font dialog. (See attached illustration.)

If you've got the formatting toolbar displayed, you can also change the font's colour by clicking on the drop-down arrow next to the font-color icon (the heavily underlined 'A') and picking the colour from the picker box. The heavy underlining shows whatever colour you'll get if you simply click on the font-color icon

    Cheers
