SpoofStick for IE

I just stumbled across a freeware add-in for Internet Explorer that tells you the domain you're really on, even if the link is spoofed. It's called SpoofStick and is available for download from CoreStreet. Neat little tool and can be turned off easily if you wish.

Hi Charlotte

It also works for Firefox.
Your link works better than <!post=unkamunka's,376444 >unkamunka's<!/post>

I actually searched on SpoofStick before posting this and didn't get any hits. That forum is so new, I didn't think of looking there specifically.

Charlotte,

You might want to read what Brian Livingston had to say about SpoofStick in a recent article.

I wasn't relying on it to identify trojans nor recommending it for that. I think the reviewer may have gotten hold of the wrong end of the "stick", so to speak. It is only intended to identify the site, nothing else.

Re: SpoofStick for IE

True enough, but I think the point of what Brian Livingston is saying is that it could provide a false sense of security. If a malicious site altered a user's HOSTS file, for example, SpoofStick would still report that you were on Domain A, although the HOSTS file would redirect the site to a carefully crafted dupe. Even if that were not the case, verifying the domain you are on might not be a good indicator that you were safe.
