You could bookmark each of the AutoNumLgl fields & then use a formula like

{ = { REF bmk1 } + 2 }

    where bmk1 is the first bookmark, bmk2 is the second bookmark, etc. This does have the disadvantage of requiring you to bookmark each field. Since it's in a table, make sure that you don't use just two letters & a number (like bk1, bk2) as Word will think those are cell references instead of bookmarks.
    Hope this helps,

    Many thanks, Phil...Last night, after sending my post, I thought about bookmarking the various AutoNumLg fields/steps and use the REF field to go to them when appropriate. I would not have thought about the formula you shared, though. I will try using it this morning. I'm sure it will work great, though! Many thanks for sharing it with me!...Mary

    What behaviour do you want if someone inserts a row IN BETWEEN the row where you have placed the reference and the one it refers to?

    It might be easiest to just use a cross reference to the number on the row two below, this will do exactly what you have asked for, except if a row is added in between.

    Hello, Stuart...You're right; just the cross reference field might be better in case rows are added inbetween the referenced row and the numbered row. I was glad to learn the formula, though, for future reference. Many thanks...Mary
