Word 2003 forgetting option settings (Word 2003)

    Hi all

Quite frequently (almost every day), Word seems to "forget" my Option setting for "When selecting, automatically select entire Word" - I find that the functionality is turned off and when I go to Options, it has unchecked itself. The same is true (though less frequently) for the wonderful Compatibility option "Do full justification like WordPerfect 6.x for Windows". (I'm forever in Woody's debt for that one.)

Is anyone else with Word 2003 experiencing this problem, or do I have Word gnomes messing with my head every night when I'm asleep?

And if there's a workaround for this, I'd be delighted to hear about it.

    Thanks a lot

    Neil

Re: Word 2003 forgetting option settings (Word 2003)

I went to check and some of the settings I had checked were unchecked. I'm also having a problem with the clipboard forgetting that I do not want to see it. Every day I have to uncheck the option to automatically show clipboard. I dislike clipboard and rarely use it, so I'm finding this really irritating. If there's a fix for clipboard or some other place I should be checking to make it stay away unless I want it, I'd really appreciate the info.

Diane, are you somewhat conversant with Word macros? If so, you've probably used the Visual Basic Editor (VBE) and perhaps the Immediate window that you can open using Ctrl+G (if it isn't already open somewhere among the many windows). This information was for Word 2000 and 2002, but probably applies also to Word 2003.

For a macro approach to suppressing the Clipboard toolbar, see this thread.

There is some additional discussion in <post#=299216>post 299216</post#> regarding other toolbars people often want to suppress, the Web toolbar and the Reviewing toolbar.

Jay, thanks! I'm not very good with Visual Basic but I seem to have managed to make this work. Thanks again.

Re: Word 2003 forgetting option settings (Word 200

    Hi Neil:
I haven't used Word 2003, so I'm not sure this will help. However, for similar problems in earlier versions, it was necessary to delete the DATA key in the registry. For an explanation how to do that, see Step 4 in <post#=197827>post 197827</post#>.
    Cheers,

    Phil hi

Thanks for your suggestion & pointer to your hard-won, readily-shared experience.

I remember seeing your tip about this part of the registry and the macro once before when trying to find a work around to this. The macro is a nice easy idea - I just have to make a note of all my preferred settings. And the problem is so frequent, that this will probably end up running every time Word starts.

    Thanks again

    Neil
