Insert PDF by Reference in Word2000 (Word 2000)

    Hello,
    New lounger here...

I have a Word2000 user guide in which I'd like to insert pictures of letters and forms (PDFs) used by the document's users. I'd like to insert these by reference so that if their content changes, so does it change in the user guide. Can I insert the PDF pictures of them by reference?

I have managed to figure out how to copy and paste (but the resulting pictures are quite large), and how to insert a link or icon, but not how to insert the actual PDF by reference. Can it be done?

    Thanks,
    Barb

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge.

You can insert a hyperlink to a PDF file (Insert | Hyperlink...). If the user clicks on the hyperlink, the Adobe Reader will start and display the current version of the PDF file. But as far as I know, it is not possible to paste a picture of (part of) a PDF file as a link.

If the original documents from which the PDFs were made are Word documents, you can create links to parts of those Word documents:
    - Select a part of a document; it can contain text and/or graphics.
    - Copy to the clipboard (Edit | Copy or Ctrl+C)
    - Switch to the document in which you want the link.
    - Locate the insertion point where you want the link.
    - Select Edit | Paste Special...
    - Tick the 'Paste Link' check box, select a format and click OK.
    - If you paste link as a picture, you can resize it to fit your needs.

Re: Insert PDF by Reference in Word2000 (Word 2000)

Thank you, Hans. I tried the Paste Special / Picture approach. It worked great except for one thing... the far right end of every line in the pasted document segment is wrapped to a second line, which throws the whole form off. I've tried a variety of things: paste to document, paste to text box, paste to frame. But they all have the same effect, so it must be the copy doing it, not the paste. Any suggestion to remedy this new twist? I'm attaching a copy of the document I'm trying to insert, in case that helps.
    Thanks,
    Barb

I'm using Word 2002, not 2000, and don't get that result. I have attached a document with the first page of your document pasted as a picture, and reduced to 50%. Looks OK to me.

Perhaps someone else with Word 2000 can test.

That's curious, Hans. Your file does look good. I've attached my counterpart -- you can see what happens here (same page, same reduction %). Can anyone else shed light on this?
    Thanks,
