    Value of used laptop

I am helping a widow - her husband had bought a Dell Inspiron 5100 one year ago. She wants to sell it now. How can I get an idea of the current value of the system? Is there a "blue book" listing of any sort? I would be happy to post the specs on the system or to share them privately. I am not trying to sell it through Woody's Lounge - I am simply trying to establish a value. Thanks for any and all help.

I'd suggest looking at ebay for the exact duplicate machine. Failing that, look for other brands (again on ebay) of similar size and features.

Thanks - the problem I have with ebay is that the "prices" are all bids and you never really know what the "final bid" was.

    trebor,
You might try stopping in at a Dell dealer ( if there is one near you ) and they might at least give you a clue to what it cost originally if not it's current value.
From there you will have to give a judgement call or a SWAG as to what to ask for it now.

My experience with selling used computers is all local and not included laptops. But, I'd suggest that you "gut-feel" a selling price that's less than the price when new, but not a whole lot less. Even though it's only a year old, anyone who contacts the seller is GOING to offer to buy at an amount substantially lower than she's asking - that's the nature of negotiating.

You can search for completed auctions... they'll give you the final bid price.
