    New Template Dialog (2000)

Microsoft's own templates just display with their name (for example Workbook) when you click File | New. User templates include the file extension. Is there a way that my templates can just be displayed as Name, rather than Name.xlt? Thanks.

The only way I know of would be to tick "Hide extensions for known file types" in the View tab of Tools | Folder Options... in Windows Explorer, but I would strongly recommend against doing that. Displaying file extensions is very useful; it can protect you against inadvertently opening a virus.

Thanks Hans. I should have added that I did not want to go that route for the reasons you give. I was hoping there was another way but obviously not. Thanks for replying.
