Opening Links (Outlook 2003)

Currently when I open an e-mail link in Outlook 2003 the web browser fo my ISP (MSN) opens. Although this is close to Internet Explorer, I would prefer the links to open Internet Explorer when clicked on. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Opening Links (Outlook 2003)

Links open in your default browser so you will need to make IE your default browser. There are a couple of ways to go about this:

1/ In Internet Explorer select "Tools>Internet Options..."
On the programs tab place a check mark in the box: "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser"
Click OK and close IE. The next time you open IE it should ask if you want to make IE your default browser.

2/ If you are using Windows XP you can try the following (I think this option was introduced with the SP1 release)
Click Start and then select "Set program access and defaults"
In the Custom section you should be able to specify what browser to use as default.

You will still be able to use MSN but when you click on a hyperlink in any other program it will open IE and not MSN.

Follow Up: When I restarted my computer I was back to MSN explorer. Checked the Custom section and the settings were back to what they were before I changed them. Any thoughts ?

I have never used MSN so another lounger may have the solution. One thing I would look for is the settings within MSN to see if there is one that makes MSN the default browser.

You have joined the MSN ans AOL Club. They both take over your machine so they (MSN or AOL) will be the default browser and email reader.

If you are using the Butterfly to get on the Internet then you are telling the machine to use MSN Explorer. If you don't NOT want to use MSN Explorer then use the BIG blue E and IE should open up. Every time you use the Butterfly you will reset ALL the defaults to MSN Explorer.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
