    System Recovery (xp (h) sp1)

My new VAIO machine comes with nothing at the system level. They want the customer to create system recovery DVD/CDs instead. Without those I'm hanging out depending on System Restore just in case. I bought WPH and installed it on another machine. Can I use that CD to refresh any system level stuff that 'breaks', maybe as found with SFC? (or other?)

I've learned a lot from reading this forum. Keep up the good work...

Yes, you can use Ms Windows Installation CD (more exactly, its i386 folder) for file restoring, if it is the same version (Windows XP Home SP-1). But, if VAIO installed OEM version of Windows, you can not re-install Windows from that CD (it will not accept the Product Key from the sticker on your computer). If you have CD or DVD burner, consider to get Backup or Imaging program (Norton Ghost, for example) - it will be the best solution.

You still need to burn those Restore CD and DVDs, they will be useful in the future.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
