Re: Word 2000 (Word 2000 OVR)

The most common cause for turning on OVR mode is accidentally hitting the Insert key. Here is how to disable this. Make sure that you are not in OVR mode.

Select Tools | Customize...
Click Keyboard...
Select "All Commands" in the Categories list.
Select "Overtype" in the Commands list.
Select "Insert" in the Current Keys box.
Click Remove.
Click Close (twice)

Turn off OVR (Word 2000 OVR)

Can someone tell me how to permanently turn off OVR in my word 2000 so that it does not interfere with editing a text document? Please reply

Hello,

If you want to actually disable the command (so that even double-clicking OVR won't turn it on), put an empty macro named "Overtype" in your Normal.dot template:

Sub Overtype
' do nothing
End Sub

Thank you andrew. I'm a little confused on getting to my Normal.Dot template. Can you tell me how to do that? Please reply.

Sure.

Go to Tools -> Macro -> Macros.

In the dialog that appears, where it says "Macros in: ", choose "Normal.dot (global template)"

For Macro name, put: Overtype

Press "Create"

The VBA editor will come up, and an empty macro named Overtype will be created. Just go to File -> Save Normal, then File -> Close and return to Microsoft Word.

That should do it.
