recovered from serious error message (XP Pro Latest service release, I think)

In the last week or so, I get a work stoppage, usually followed by a reboot, and display of this serious error message apparently from Microsoft. McAfee latest, with update, found no virus. Spybot found some things which I deleted. Didn't run adware. Any ideas, anyone?

Just what is the serious error message that you get? Can you give us a screenshot of it?

You might also want to go to Control Panel, click on the System icon, then advanced tab. In the start up & recovery block click settings. Uncheck automatic restart in system failure.
Also under error reporting, check- disable error reporting.

Have you run chkdsk.exe on your HD lately?

Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
    Today it is called golf!
