enabling Text Direction (Word 2003 on XP)

Hi. I am running Word 2003 on Windows XP and can't get the Text Direction feature enabled. After trying in the document I wanted to use it in, I created a blank document, added a few paragraph returns, and tried it there. It is staying grayed out. This is a new computer with Word configured by the manufacturer. Is there a setting somewhere I can change? Am I going to have to reinstall Word?

    Thanks,
    Lucy

Thanks. I tried putting in a text box and was able to change the direction that way. Has this always applied just to drawing objects?

    I don't use this feature, so I'm afraid I can't answer that one. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

As Jefferson remarked higher up, not only in drawing objects, but also in table cells. It was introduced in Word 97, if I remember correctly, or else in Word 2000, and has not been extended to general document text (yet).
