Winamp query?

I know this sounds like a weird question, but does anyone know how to make balance settings in Winamp stick?!

I listen to music via headphones at work, but because I have to answer the phone too I just have one earpiece in, and the other hooked into my jacket or whatever. So I don't lose half the stereo sound, I put Winamp's balance right over to one side, which works fine - but every time, after a few minutes, if I check the other earpiece the music is coming out of it again, even though the slider in Winamp is still right over, where I left it!

Edited to add: in fact I just checked, and it re-balances every time it starts a new track! Arrgghhh!

It's one of those niggling little irritations that certainly don't shake the world, but are really annoying all the same!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    A few ideas:

Have you tried removing and reinstalling Winamp?

Have you checked the Winamp user forums to see if anyone else has encountered this issue?

Have you ensured that your sound card's drivers are updated? Winamp closes the audio device and reopens it at every track change, so it could be a driver issue.

Along the same lines as the previous suggestion, try downloading the Gapless Output plug-in which will prevent the closing and reopening of the audio device. Since it modifies the way the end of a track is handled, it may solve the balance issue as well.[/list]Hope that helps,

Have you tried iTunes? It's not just the music store but a player as well.

Thanks, Mark - I didn't know that was how Winamp worked, but it certainly does sound as though that could be what's causing the problem - albeit it's a rather strange way to set the software up to work in the first place!

I have tried reinstalling it (no difference), but I don't have any control over the drivers etc since it's a work machine, and I can just see the Ops people leaving the network and other work problems to wait while they help me get my music playing properly ... not! Oh, well, can't blame them, I suppose.

I'm home now so I can't try the plug-ins yet (didn

Hmmm ... I suppose it must do!

Well, you'll be pleased to hear that it worked perfectly and I am now listening to all my music in one ear, as preferred. I set the gap to be as large as possible since I didn't actually want the tracks to run together, just not to reset every time, and now everything is hunky-dory!

PS I am now using the new space skin, which is rather fun!

Great news! If only solving all problems were that easy.

Glad to hear that you like the Space skin...just don't space out at your desk!
