FireFox - RC .9 Now Available (Mozilla Firefox)

    All,

For those interested, Mozilla.org has recently made Firefox 0.9 RC available for download. The most noticeable difference is the new default theme. Most of the other changes are subtle and relate to performance, stability, and usability enhancements.

As with all pre-release software, if you plan to use this new version please do NOT install it over your existing FireFox installation. You will be begging for problems if you do. Remove your existing version and install it cleanly into a new location on your hard drive.

    Happy browsing!

It did not take long to go from Firefox 0.9 Release Candidate to Firefox 0.9

Re: FireFox - RC .9 Now Available (Mozilla Firefox

Well, leave it to me to goof it up. I deleted Firefox .8 and installed the .9 version. When it asked me which profile I wanted to import, I had two choices and picked the wrong one! Now I cannot seem to be able to get back in to set up my profile from my old Firefox. It will let me create a new profile, etc. It just doesn't seem to have a way to import from anywhere except IE now. I have not dumped my "trash" and I still show the profiles in my application data. Is there any way I can restore my old one back? Maybe just copy/paste or is this not a very good idea? The thing I am missing the most are all my bookmarks! It won't be a life and death matter but oh, feel the pain!!

Read this thread on the Mozilla forums which explains how to manually migrate your profile settings. In reading that post, I am not so sure that it was you that goofed up.

My bookmarks are now back safe and sound!! I will still need to get a few extensions that I might miss but I want to see what the new browser has 'incorporated' first! For now, thanks to your link, I am a happy lounger now! [you are the greatest!]

Firefox 0.9.1 has just been released. It fixes some flaws in the extension system that users may have been experiencing, as well as a new icon set for the navigation toolbar on Windows and Linux.

I'm giving it a test drive right now. I don't use the navigation toolbar, in fact I hide all of the toolbars and display a single row that contains (from left to right) the text menus, the address bar, and the Google search box. I navigate using either keystrokes or my Intellimouse's extra buttons.

All the same, the upgrade was very painless, all of my settings and plug-ins were retained. I was pleased to see such a smooth transition. Time will tell if the few nits that I had about interface design were addressed...that will take a few days!
