Windows Media Player (9.00.00.3128.)

No matter how many times I try with different configurations -- Shuffle on, Repeat off; Shuffle off, Repeat on; etc -- I cannot get Windows Media Player, after it finishes one track in my Media Library, to play the next track. Either it simply repeats the current track infinitely or stops. Any ideas? Thanks.

Have you moved your music files? In the MS newsgroups there are several threads which say to delete/repair the media library if you have moved you music files. Also, that seems like the generic suggestion for many problems - seems as thought the media library has a tendency to become corrupted.

    Re: Windows Media Player (9.00.00.3128.)

Okay, I deleted and researched my Media Library. But to no avail.

In case I wasn't clear -- and I don't think I was in my original message -- I want Windows Media Player, after it finishes one song in my Media Library, to play the next (directly below). I can't figure out, though:

Shuffle only: jumps to the next song but does not play the next song.

Repeat only: repeats the same song.

Shuffle and repeat: repeats the same song.

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious -- but what? Thanks.

It was clear. It just saw that deleting the media library seemed to be a fairly general suggestion for several problems. Is this just one type of file?

Is this a recent development? After applying a patch? Is WMP fully patched? Have your tried uninstalling and reinstalling WMP9?

No. No. Yes. No (I'll try that next).

Let me ask you a question, though:

What settings do you use to make Windows Media Player, after it finishes one song in your Media Library, to play the next (directly below)? Thanks.

I've not done anything in particular. I don't think I've changed any settings since I originally installed WMP9. Settings at home and work seem to be the same.

Edit your playlist by clicking File | Edit Current Playlist or pressing Ctrl-D. Save your playlist as a file. Next time open the playlist - WMP will play all songs from the playlist in order.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

But I don't want to use a playlist; I want WMP to work as it should...

    Any other ideas? Thanks again.

Did you ever try re-installing WMP9? I don't think you can uninstall it but I've seem comments in the MS newgrsoups that re-installing solved problems.

I haven't tried that--but I don't know how; WMP is unlisted in Add/Remove Programs... Thanks.

Just go to the WMP9 download site and re-install over what you have. Test it out. Then run Windows Update to see if there are any patches for it.

I just did both things, but the problem still exists! This is truly bewildering... Thanks again.

Well, I'm at a loss. Have you tried posting in an MS media player newsgroup?
