Adding years to Dates (Excel XP)

I am working on a spreadsheet that has a number of columns. In one of the columns I have no data. I would like Excel to take a date value that is in a preceding column and add a value to that date that is in a different column and put the result in my column with no data. Hope this makes sense. So for example I have date values in column A, Ex: 3 AUG 1998 and time values in column B (Ex. 5yrs). I would like Excel to display in Column C the value of Colum A plus what ever year increase/decrease I have in Column B. (3 AUG2003) I tried one formula but it changes the day not the year. How can I get it to change only the year number and keep the date I have in column A. Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

    Try this formula:

=DATE(YEAR(A1)+B1,MONTH(A1),DAY(A1))

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

Say that the date is in A1, and the number of years to add in B1. The following formula will return the date you want:

    =DATE(YEAR(A1)+B1,MONTH(A1),DAY(A1))

The YEAR, MONTH and DAY functions take the date in A1 to parts, and the DATE function assembles them again, after adding the number in B1 to the year.
