Access Denied on game (XP SP1)

We just got a new game and after installing it, we get this message when we try to run it:

    Access Denied(title)
Please log-on as the administrator and try again.

We don't have any profiles set up and there is no special security on the game folder or anywhere else on my p.c. (my bad).

I've tried copying the folder to the Shared Folders area, but it doesn't help. Any suggestions? <img src=/S/bummer.gif border=0 alt=bummer width=15 height=15>

You didn't specify which modification of Windows XP (home or Professional) are you using and which game it is.
In the matter of fact, you have at least two profiles in your installation: Administrator (built-in profile for administering purposes) and your profile (your username) with Administrative rights. If you use Welcome screen in bootup, you cannot logon to Administrator profile without Registry modifications.

Try to uninstall the game and install it once again from Installation Mode (Start | Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs | Add New Program button on the left pane | CD or Floppy button | Next; if it's not recognize Setup file, click Browse button and point it to Setup file).

    Sorry -

    1. we're using XP Professional
    2. we're trying to install Syberia II.
    3. Yes, we have an Administrator and a "user".

I'll try your suggestion and let you know whether or not it works.

Re: Access Denied on game (XP SP1)

We tried installing the game through the add/delete screen but no luck. Fortunately, we waded through the french/english support site for the game and hopefully they will either issue a patch (as I think one of the .dlls has Administrator hard-coded, but that's just me), or else help me out.

I was just wondering, as I didn't set up this p.c. myself, if there was a registry address that needed fixing or something.

Does the 'user' have administrative rights? Many programs/games require that you install using a userid with administrative rights.

Yes, the user has administrative rights. That's the first place I looked. We don't have any problems with any other game or program installations.

Some older games/programs have trouble with long file names or names with spaces. Did you install to C:Program Files...? If so, try uninstall and reinstall with your specifying C:"short folder name of your choice".
