    Bold /

    How do I get a / character that looks like it is Bold?
    In IE 6, none of the following produce a satisfactory Bold /.
    <pre>

    Alpha stuff / more stuff Beta.</p>

    Alpha stuff Pizza/Bagels more stuff Beta.</p>

    Alpha stuff / more stuff Beta.</p>

    Alpha stuff Pizza/Bagels more stuff Beta.</p>
    </pre>

    Your HTML appears just fine, although you may try substituting STRONG for B and EM for I because some browsers render these two effects slightly differently.

    If that doesn't work, you may be experiencing something I've noticed in several situations. Certain fonts at certain sizes do not display any differently between bold and regular. The only way around this is to test different fonts and sizes until you come up with satisfactory results.

    Hope this helps.

    I've tried each of the font sizes in the IE View menu.
    Is there an entity for the solidus?

    There is no named entity for the keyboard /, probably because it's not a special character in HTML. You can use #47; preceded by the &, but I doubt that will change anything.

    Here's one you could try, the "fraction slash," frasl; preceded by &, which renders as: &frasl;

    Bolded, though, it seems to shrink: &frasl;

    I had already tried the 47, same problem.

    I also booted to another system that has Front Page 2002, same problem.

    Re: Bold /

    Since I can't see the "boldness" in Word either, I think it's more a function of the fonts themselves than of any particular authoring or viewing software. You'll just have to make up a tiny gif or use a different character if you want it to stand out more.
