    Merging Protected Document Sections w/ Access (XP)

    How can we merge a protected document sections with Access? User wants to maintain certain sections protected during the merging with access.

    You'll have to unprotect the document while merging, sorry. Word simply refuses to finish the merge when the document is protected for forms. You can re-protect it afterwards. If desired, you can create a macro that does all this.

    Older versions of WORD allow merging protected documents?

    According to WD97: How to Use Form Data as Mail Merge Data Source:
    <hr>NOTE: You cannot use a protected form document as a mail merge main document. In fact, the Mail Merge command on the Tools menu is unavailable when a protected form is the active document.<hr>
    There are similar MSKB articles for Word 2000 and 2002. I can't remember how it was in Word 6 for Windows 3.x and in Word 95 - too long ago...
