    Status bar message (XP SP2)

Does anyone know if it's possible to display custom messages in Outlook status bar?

This would be similar to Application.Statusbar in Excel.

    Thanks,

Short of fussing with API calls, I don't think you can access the Outlook's status bar like in MS-Excel or MS-Word.

However, if your goal is to provide status or progress information for the user while code is running, there <font color=red>is</font color=red> a kludge:

What you can do is to make your own CommandBar with a TextBox control that you can fill by your code. You an even dock it at the bottom of the screen <img src=/S/bingo.gif border=0 alt=bingo width=15 height=22>

Now that, IMHO, is the closest and easiest way to do what you want to do.

Waiting for some Gems from the MVPs here.

Thanks, the command bar suggestion is a good idea for a workaround. Does the refresh rate tend to be reasonable?

I'm sure there is a way to do this with the right API's but it's probably not worth the time investment of digging around and trying to find it.

When you say <font color=blue><<< Does the refresh rate tend to be reasonable? >>> </font color=blue>

I guess you will be controlling this via code. So I think you set what happens and when.

Or did I miss your point?

What I mean is that even when you change the appearance of controls from code, sometimes they don't refresh instantly. Some things don't even refresh until after the code has finished running. I expect for a CommandButton however that the refresh should be good enough for even real time stuff, like a makeshift status bar as we are discussing.
