    Programs Freezing

I use Eudora as my email. When I receive an email with a link to a web page I point the cursor at that link and the system freezes. I then have to use ctl-alt-delete. Can some one help me with this problem? Also sometimes when I try to open my CRM module I start the program and it doesn't open. What seems to be the problem? Thanks

    Re: Programs Freezing

First let's look at the problems individually.

When you say you 'point your cursor at the link' does that mean you simply hover over the link in Eudora, and you are greeted with a complete system lockup? Or are you actually clicking on the link to launch your web browser before this happens?

You also mention your CRM module. What is the name of the application, and how often do the lockups occur? If you could provide an estimate - 1 out of 10 times, 1 out of 5, once a day etc - it would be helpful.

Did these problems recently start occurring or has this been happening for some time? Do you have other applications running at the same time, virus scanning software, etc? Something in your Windows environment is causing this, so we need to know more about the environment to diagnose the problem.

Regarding Eudora, as soon as I point the cursor on the link the system freezes.
The CRM is Siebel, it locks up about twice a week.
I have Macafee running for the last few years with no problems. These problems started happening about 4 months ago.
    Thank you for your help.

    Re: Programs Freezing

Do you recall any changes being made about the time that the problems cropped up? I'm wondering if it was some sort of patch applied via Windows Update, or some other software that was installed.

I would first suggest uninstalling Eudora and re-installing it clean. Make sure that you back up your contacts and email folders first so that you don't lose anything. Reinstalling software often corrects odd problems that can occur with corrupted files or settings. You might also consider running the System File Checker as well (Start - Run - SFC).

When I did the start run SFC all I got was a list of files, but nothing else happened.

Ahh, boo hiss, I forgot that SFC is not a part of Windows ME. <img src=/S/sorry.gif border=0 alt=sorry width=15 height=15> You can extract files and replace them, but you cannot run an automated check.

Instead of that, try selective startup. Click on Start - Run and enter msconfig in the box. You can disable things from starting automatically with Windows from here. I recommend this option because it will help diagnose whether or not it is some other program interfering with normal operation or if it the problem is rooted in the operating system somewhere else.

There are several references here in the Lounge about startup managers and lists of startup items. You should also read the Microsoft article on clean boot troubleshooting for ME and see if it helps any.

    Keep us posted!

    Re: Programs Freezing

The problem I was having with eudora was resolved by purchasing an upgrade of eudora. I am now experiencing a problem with a Siebel CRM program that Siebel no longer supports. When I click on the program to open it, the program title appears on my desktop then nothing happens. I do CTL-ALT-Delete sometimes it works and closes the program other times I have to turn the computer off and start it again. Can you please help?

SInce Siebel no longer supports the application, I would suggest removing and reinstalling it to see if that corrects the problem.

    Re: Programs Freezing

I attempted to reinstall the Siebel CRM. I went through the process and got this message "Siebel e business applications require Microsoft ODBC Access Driver at version 4.0.3711.8 In checking your installation none was found. This is way over my head. Please help!
